J.C.'s Obituary

Lawrence "J.C." Caffro, 22, of Akron, died at Akron City Hospital late Wednesday (May 12, 1999) afternoon due to a hit and run motorcycle accident.

Born in Rochester, Pa., on Sept. 25, 1976, to Larry J. and Sandy (Richards) Caffro, he was a graduate of Columbiana High School in 1995, and went on to further his education at Geneva College on a football scholarship, later transferring to The University of Akron, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta . He was employed in the Transportation Dept. at Akron General Hospital, and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 18, where he was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and attended National Jamboree. He was a member of the Columbiana Clipper 1994 football team that was Tri-County champs and first-round playoff winners, was Division VI first team All-Ohio center in football, a member of the National Honor Society, and vice president of his high school class. He was also a member of the track team for four years and on the winter homecoming court. He played in the Penn Ohio All Star Game in Beaver Falls in 1995.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his sister, Tami N. Caffro of Waynesburg, Pa.; Maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Mr. and Mrs. Ned (Marcella) Crum of Freemont, Ind.; maternal grandfather and step grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Donald G. (Bette) Richards of Delphos, Ohio. He was preceded in death on Nov. 4, 1994 by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel (Rosemarie) Caffro. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Amanda Viano of Poland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Columbiana, with Fr. Thomas Zigler officiating. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Industry, Pa. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Dawson Funeral Home, 215 W. Fifth St., East Liverpool, and one hour prior to service at the church. Contributions may be made to the "J.C."
