The J.C. Caffro Memorial Scholarship

The J.C. Caffro Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of J.C. Caffro a former student of Columbiana High School in Columbiana, Ohio. The scholarship is awarded to an individual who has exhibited outstanding service to his/her school and community.

Service was of the utmost importance to J.C.. Not only was J.C. an Eagle Scout, but as part of the transportation staff at Akron General Hospital J.C. worked hard at his service orientated position to make sure each patient felt secure and as comfortable as possible. One letter we received told of his continual visits to the father of an alumnus of his fraternity.

Another aspect of J.C.’s life that demonstrates his compassion for others was his commitment to the organ-donors program. J.C. actively advocated organ donation through his fraternity. So even now that he is no longer with us his service lives on as 4 peoples’ lives are changed because J.C., himself, was an organ donor.

The following poem embodies the personality and sense of service that J.C. exhibited during his short time with us.

THOSE WHO SHARE THEIR LAUGHTER AND THEIR SMILES WITH EVERYONE,

AND HELP OTHERS FEEL A SENSE OF THEIR OWN WORTH

ARE GOD'S OWN SPECIAL ANGELS WHO MAY PASS THIS WAY BUT ONCE,

BUT WHO TRULY MAKE A DIFFERENCE HERE ON EARTH.

It is our hope that J.C. Caffro Memorial Scholarship winners will continue in the spirit of service that J.C. so actively pursued.
